Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell was in Bensalem, Pa.,
Monday to announce federal stimulus funding for green
projects.
Bridge Business Center LP in Bristol, Pa., and Sysco
Food Services in Philadelphia were among five entities
awarded federal stimulus funds for green projects,
Rendell said.
The Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority has
allocated $3.8 million combined to the companies,
which will invest a total of $19 million and create
an expected 155 jobs.
Rendell made the announcement at Accu-Weld in Bensalem.
The 28- year old firm, which manufacturers high-efficiency,
vinyl replacement windows for homes, is already seeing
an increase in demand as a result of the federal stimulus
package, Rendell said.
Under the stimulus, homeowners who make energy efficiency
improvements will be eligible for a 30 percent tax
credit capped at $1,500. Homeowners who purchase energy
efficient products are also eligible for a loan or
rebate under the state’s new Keystone HELP Residential
Energy Efficiency Loan and Rebate Program.
Accu-Weld was not one of the five companies involved
in the funding.
Sysco Food Services will match a state investment
of $840,000 to construct a 190,000- square-foot expansion
of its distribution center and warehouse, which will
be more energy efficient and utilize solar power.
The Bridge Business Center will receive $1 million
and invest an additional $1.6 million to install an
energy system in a 50,000-square-foot laboratory to
enable the firm to recycle waste heat from its operations
and meet all of its energy needs.
The governor announced that he had also taken the
necessary formal action to ensure the state would
have access to approximately $366 million in federal
stimulus funds to grow green businesses and create
jobs.
